56 Sage Street is a free to play online game. In it you start off with someone who has nothing – well, who has £4 in their pocket – and who aspires to the fortunes of the millionaire Mr C.
Mr C, in case you hadn’t guessed, lives at 56 Sage Street. This free game is single player and makes use of a large Flash map.
The initial challenge is straight forward, all to familiar and requires some grind. You can’t get the good jobs until you can get some nicer clothes, a better reputation and a more impressive address. How do you get those? With money. Money’s hard to come buy until you get the good jobs.
Things to note about the game are the three mini-games inside; Tony’s Cafe (cooking skill test), the Holly Roger (reflexes ala Guitar Hero) and EWM Solicitors (typing skills) as well as the rentless clock that ticks forward 15 minutes whenever you visit a location – whether you’re successful at the location, whether you do anything at that location or not.
If you manage to live up to Mr C’s expectations and fulfil all his little quests then the millionaire promises to bequeath his entire, money fat, empire to you.
It’s a big game. There are over 100 locations (so that’s at least 1500 in-game minutes just to explore them all) and about 50 different rewards to earn as you can play.
Here’s the thing. The game is actually an advert for Barclays bank- or, perhaps, a combination of advertising and outreach that’s designed to encourage younger people to think about banking, working and what to do with their money.
