What happens when you smash a hammer down on a small puddle of Nitroglycerine? Okay. Imagine then that you’ve a slow motion camera filming the explosion too. What would that explosion look like if you slow things down by a factor of 100, 200 or even 600?

The truth is that liquid nitroglycerine transforms into gas nitroglycerine very, very quickly. Hence the term detonation.
