CMON had previously released their quickstart of the forthcoming Assassin’s Creed tabletop roleplaying game.
Still, it’s listing on DriveThruRPG means I can check it out without giving my email address to anyone else or even visiting a site off my beaten track.
The first reviews are in, with Diego saying;
As an old time AC fan, I had low expectations of the game, but from what I could read I gotta say I’m impressed. The rules seem quick and even if the fiction-first system is more narrative than I expected (much like a light Genesys System) it seems fitting for the game and apparently address all of the principle from the video game series. Also, kudos for the free app included with dice roller and character sheets!
Massimiliano Castellani and Andrea Macchi are credited as authors, with a number of artists. Francesco Nepitello (Lex Arcana, The One Ring) is also said by publisher CMON to be involved, but not mentioned on the DriveThruRPG credits.
In this tabletop roleplaying game, players take on the role of Descendants, modern-day heirs to the Assassin Brotherhood. Using the Animus technology, they can access the memories of their ancestors and relive their battles against the Templars. In doing so, they join the secret war to preserve humanity’s free will.
As players progress through the game, they will inherit the abilities of their ancestors, gaining the power to affect the fate of the world they live in. They may become Master Assassins, leading the fight against the Templars and ensuring that freedom reigns supreme.
The TTRPG uses the new Match System, which uses two sets of custom d6 (available as an official app) for fast-paced and fiction-first gameplay.
The complete rules will come in three books;
- The Animus Handbook is a book that contains the full rules and lore of the Assassin’s Creed tabletop RPG.
- Forging History is a book that contains everything you need to run an entire campaign for the Assassin’s Creed tabletop RPG. It presents three main storylines, each structured along several sequences, and each sequence is a self-contained adventure that can be played in a single session.
- Legacy of the Brotherhood is a compendium that is inspired by the most beloved Assassins in the Assassin’s Creed video game series. It includes sections dedicated to the greatest protagonists of the saga, including Basim from the brand-new Assassin’s Creed Mirage.
