Open Sesame Games US has reworked the French RPG Ecryme for English-speaking markets and found success on Kickstarter.
It’s a game where a strange acidic substance, ecryme, coats everything bar a few crowded steampunk cities. The crowdfunder has over a month to run and has already achieved the €15,000 target. You can join in or see progress from the pitch page.

The starter kit summarises the universe, the basic rules of the 2d6 system, some pre-genned characters and an introductory adventure.
The game engine focuses on roleplaying as the game itself is an adaptation of Mathieu Gobarit’s books. The mechanics reward investment in skills, though, rather than luck. The margin of success and failure of the rolls are a thing.
Quirkily, Idea and Spleen are both attributes.
The world has long been submerged by an ocean of ecryme, a strange acidic substance that corrodes everything. Humanity managed to survive on the small outcroppings and islands left in its wake. They built a civilization based on steelwork and stonework, where wood is almost non-existent. Large cities, built vertically to make the most of what little space exists, sprang up from the horizon. After a few hundred years of development, driven by impulse, humanity built the traverses, endless gigantic bridges to cross the ecryme sea and connect to one another – coming together through chance or perhaps something greater. For in the strange world of Ecryme, the emotions of humankind seem to hold a power of their own…

Supporters offering €40 or more will unlock PDFs of the Ecryme Player’s Guide and Conductor’s Manual.
The Player’s Guide is a comprehensive resource for players of the Ecryme roleplaying game. It provides everything you need to know about the world of Ecryme, including its history, geography, factions, rules, character creation, advancement options, equipment, and Cephaly, the weird and secret magic of this world.
The Conductor’s Manual is a toolkit for game masters running Ecryme games. It advises running game sessions, creating scenarios, and developing characters. The book also includes two sample scenarios to get you started.
The €90 pledge adds the physical books to the PDF rewards, but there’s shipping to pay.
There’s only one more tier, and that’s at €135, which adds the Collector’s slipcase and limited editions of both books, a dice set, a quick reference booklet, a character sheets folder and the PDFs.
Open Sesame Games estimate delivery for the tiers around June 2024.
