Anime Expo has given us the colourful chaos of a new Panty & Stocking anime. Or, to provide the show with its full name; Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt.
Studio Trigger first came to the series in 2010, just months after the manga debut, and it’s the story of the Anarchy sisters. Panty and Stocking are angels cast out of Heaven for causing chaos, who come to a place between Heaven and Hell besieged by evil spirits and are sheltered by Reverend Garterbelt. The two fallen angels get their names because, of course, they can turn lingerie into weapons.
Previously, Funimation ran the series outside of Japan. Crunchyroll picked it up through the merger process, and while it’s rated mature, you can still watch it only on Sony’s platform.
It might be related mature (or perhaps because of it), but it’s a popular series with Crunchyroll’s members, with over a thousand reviews a near-perfect 5/5 star rating.
Crunchyroll describes the anime;
Panty and Stocking are obscene angels who were banished from the pearly gates for being foul-mouthed, sex-crazed, sugar-addicted bad girls! Now they spend their days hunting ghosts in the lecherous abyss between Heaven and Earth.
We know Studio Trigger will be making the new series, but we don’t know if the same cast will return, the staff or even a release estimate.
