Magpie Games has signed an exclusive with retail giant Target.com for the introductory kit to the Avatar Legends roleplaying game’s physical starter set. Demiplane is involved with the digital edition.
The Powered by the Apocalyse tabletop RPG is set in the world of The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra, with the players as new heroes.
A deal like this with a tabletop RPG publisher and such a large chain is unusual but a good sign for the hobby. It’s certainly going to put an alternative system in front of lots of potential gamers.
Target suggests the game will cost $25 and is suitable for 14 and up, whereas Magpie has been saying for all ages. The Starter Set is a streamlined collection of rules, with an adventure in Aang’s era and one in Korra to help speed players into the game.
The box also has 10 engraved d6, 21 combat cards and 10 pre-genned characters.
If you pick up the physical box from Target, it comes with a 50% discount code for the Avatar Nexus version over at Demiplane. That’s welcome news for Demiplane, despite the discount, as it’ll introduce that digital toolkit to a whole new range of gamers.
