Red Oaks Creative has merged FATE with music to create a system for the collaborative RPG Halcyon Daze: Motorcycle Knights. You play a biker who chills with their pals by day and goes out looking for trouble to sort it out at night.
The Kickstarter, if it’s successful, will fund the game, unique and exclusive dice and bundle with poker chips and an album. There are about three weeks left on the clock at the time of writing, and you can pledge from the pitch page.
The campaign needs just shy of £2,500 to fund and is set in the fictional town of Red Oaks. In Red Oaks, music and motorbikes are kings.
There’s no GM in Halcyon Daze: Motorcycle Knights, as the story is woven by the players. Characters have three facets;
- Concept – the defining idea for the PC, like “The leader of the motorcycle club”.
- Trouble – that thing which won’t easily go away, like “Sometimes, I forget my own name”.
- Relationships – how the PC reacts to others, and this facet uses song lyrics to keep things musical and exciting.
… music forms a key part of Halcyon Daze : Motorcycle Knights, each game comes with a soundtrack that you all get to define. The songs on that soundtrack will give you milestones to aim for within the story. They define the chapters of the story and provide tone and structure for you to aim for.
Backers can support the campaign for as little cash as they want, but those who hit the £10 tier will get a reward copy of the Halcyon Daze: Motorcycle Knights PDF and the game Delta Death Race ’69.
Those supporters who fund £40 to offer will get the print end bound edition of the RPG, the bespoke dice and game tokens too.
At £60, supporters’ nominated NPCs are added to Red Oaks and enjoy some curated playlists from the creative team.
The top tier is £130, including the CD from This is Bardcore, a tour t-shirt and a game with the creators.
Halcyon Daze: Motorcycle Knights is using BackerKit, and that is a chance to alter the details, adding purchases to the rewards such as more dice.
If all goes well, Red Oaks Creative hopes to complete fulfilment this year and in October if all goes well.
