Tomkin Press’ sci-fi sister RPG to Shawn Tomkin’s rightfully very popular Ironsworn is a hit. The Kickstarter community is eager to back to solo RPG, which has options for co-op and guided play.
The campaign asked for $15,000 to fund and, with 28 days still on the clock, has over $135,000 in pledges. That’s nearly 2,500 backers. You can see the dials spin and pledge from the pitch page.
You don’t need a copy of Ironsworn to play Starforged, as it’s a standalone game. It’s also a standalone game that you get immediate access to, at least in a fully illustrated beta copy, right after becoming a project backer.
In Ironsworn: Starforged you are a spaceborne adventurer sworn to undertake perilous quests. You will explore uncharted sectors, unravel the secrets of a mysterious galaxy, and build bonds with those you meet in your travels. Most importantly, you will swear iron vows and see them fulfilled—no matter the cost.
The A5 rules (6×9 inch) will come to 300 (or more) pages, but digital and deluxe editions will also be available.
That preview edition you get access to straightaway is about 230 pages long.
Cards, which are helpful in solo RPGs as the tactile draw of randomness followed by a spoiler-free read (you don’t read what’s on other cards, unlike in tables where you have to scan), are also part of the project.
However, as a result of all the goodies, shipping to the UK could cost as much as $25. Some countries in the “All Other Countries” bracket estimate as high as $120 for postage. Tomkin is aware of this and offers to cover up to 50% of the VAT to try and soften the blow.
A pledge of $20 will get you the digital edition (with immediate access to the preview edition), the Starforged playkit and print-and-play downloads.
The deluxe edition hardcover is added to pledges at $40 or above, with that shipping cost to add.
The deluxe bundle, which ads a printed deck and the wirebound reference guide, is at $68. This pledge level is, by far, the most popular.
Tomkin Press have set the estimated delivery date to March 2022.
