Eric Bloat describes We Die Young as the spiritual successor to Dark Places & Demogorgons, another title from Bloat Games.
In We Die Young, characters are 20-something vampires, werebeasts, mummies, fey and fairies in Seattle during the 1980s era of grunge and culture-culture movements. The indie RPG has funded on Kickstarter, and you can see the latest tally or join in from the pitch page.
We Die Young is a standalone RPG and so you don’t need to have any other game to play. However, it fits into Bloat Games’ Survive This!! game line and so fully compatible with games like Vigilante City and Survive This!! Zombies!
The OSR influenced game system is d20 based and uses such mechanics as attributes, saving throws, races, levels, classes and hit points.
Physically, Bloat Games describe the book;
We Die Young will be a digest size (6×9) sized book with color cover and black & white interiors. The paper used will be heavier weight paper with a gloss finish. We plan to use Mixam as the printer as we have used them in the past and have been pleased with the results. The book is estimated to be 300+ pages with professional layout when completed. The book is fully written and playtested.
The print and PDF combo of We Die Young ships only to certain countries and unlocks, with add-ons, with a pledge of $24.
There is a higher tier, at $55, which gets you four copies of the game. You don’t have to be a retailer to qualify for this level, as Bloat Games suggests it could be used for gaming groups as well.
It’s the international shipping costs faced by publishers in the US that will get in the way of the physical book leaving the countries. Bloat Games solution offers a “PDF” tier (which I think is the generous $1 Pandemic Relief tier) and sends a Lulu link with that deal. Lulu can then print a copy for $29 for you.
Both tiers are expected to fulfil in October this year.
