Tron, Daft Punk, Derezzed – all made uber shiny with electric guitar cover

May 26, 2011 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

One of the great things about Tron 2 was the soundtrack. Daft Punk is the perfect band for the franchise. As much as I like Daft Punk it doesn’t mean that I’ll deny they can be trumped. I think Swan the White Pig has managed to do just that with his electric guitar cover of […]

Two words: Tron Samurai

May 19, 2011 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

Some pictures need very little introduction beyond their title. This is one –  this is Tron Samurai. For a brief minute I had to wonder how and why the programs in Tron ended up battling with flying discs instead of more traditional weapons. But, duh, it’s a computer program and they’re simply doing what they […]

Fan made TRON Light Cycle board game and models

April 6, 2011 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

What did you think of the new Light Cycles in Tron: Legacy? Was it wrong to see them with curved light lines? Certainly the classic, corner-now-or-die, Light Cycles are famous and truly Tron. Little wonder that geek natives around the world fancy having access to a Light Cycle game. Step forward KingTemp, smoked acrylic, some […]

Playboy does Tron [cheeky]

December 15, 2010 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

Don’t grumble. You saw the title Playboy in this post and you clicked anyway! Besides, despite a little cheek; I think we’re safe. This is art, right? Body paint is often considered art. Even if the body paint glows in the dark. This is the second Playboy post at Geek Native; the first being the […]

TRON & Daft Punk: 9 minutes of impressive projection mapping

December 6, 2010 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

I’ll put my hands up and admit that I’ve seen such a rush of fancy 3D projections that I’m becoming hard to impress. I don’t even think this projection mapping on the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in London is in 3D. It is, however, impressive. What’s more; this 9 minute video is full of Daft Punk […]

Awesome – Tron mouse leaves light trails

October 2, 2010 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

The famous light bikes in Tron were okay. What made them so cool was the solid light trails. Don’t you agree? The Tron franchise machine knows exactly what makes the visuals work in the film? Items bound with neon strips are common. Light trails are rare. They’re just hard to do! That’s why this Tron […]

Tron Legacy trailer soundtracks transformed into stop motion lights (via @kpimmel)

September 21, 2010 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

This piece of animation from Kim Pimmel is awesome. Inspired by the Tron Legacy trailers, Kim used his “Light Study” photo series and turned them into a stop motion animation. Each and very frame is an individual photograph. It’s a long exposure photo and in some cases that’s up to 20 seconds long. The effect, […]

Tron’s Flynn hidden in code

September 13, 2010 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

This is a nice, simple but effective touch from the designers of Tron Soundtrack site. Flynn, Jeff Bridges’ character, is hidden in the code. All they’ve done is used HTML comments to enclose some ASCII art. It works really well though.
