More SyFy brand work

September 6, 2010 by Andrew Girdwood 1 Comment

What do you think of the rebranding from the Sci-Fi channel to the SyFy channel? I hear some grumbles. To be honest, though, I hear more grumbles about the content (not Sci-Fi enough) than how well the rebranding was done. This might be because there are few sci-fi geeks in adland or it might because […]

PlayStation Move advert isn’t naff

September 3, 2010 by Andrew Girdwood 2 Comments

I was lucky enough to have a go on the PlayStation Movie during the Edinburgh Interactive Festival. I wasn’t allowed to take any photos but I did get a feel for the Move device itself. It’s certainly more responsive than the Wii-mote. Not sure it’s as amazingly precise as some people claim but I didn’t […]

Don’t go Zombie: The zombies

August 21, 2010 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

A while back I wrote about Don’t go zombie a marketing/viral game from Virgin Trains. It was a clever idea, making use of Google Maps so that you’d have to battle through zombies in your local area in order to get to a particular destination. If you got caught then you’re Facebook friends would have […]

Ace Combat Assault Horizon trailer

August 17, 2010 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

Here’s a chunky ad for NAMCO BANDAI’s Ace Combat Assult Horizon. The marketing chat that came with this video describes Ace Combat Assault Horizon as less of a sequel and more of a rebirth of Ace Combat. In fact, here’s the quote from Kazutoki Kono, Producer at Project Aces, NAMCO BANDAI ; “For us, this […]

Don’t go zombie: the Virgin Trains game of head shots and zombies

August 5, 2010 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

I think the point of this game is to suggest that travelling around your otherwise safe and familiar neighbourhood would be dangerous if it was filled with zombies. No, wait, that’s not it. I think the point of the game is to show you that the daily commute can turn you into a zombie. If […]

No Can’t Do; Suso marketing ninja

August 4, 2010 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

What do you get when you mix berry, orange, lemon and apple together? Ninja. At least, that’s the hope of the fizzy soft drink Suso who are reaching out to new audiences with the aid of their “Neon ninja” to the internet. The first video offered to teach the audience Parkour, freerunning, martial arts, tricking […]

Ready for Kinect, ready for tomorrow – new Xbox ad keeps the focus on motion control

July 21, 2010 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

It’s interesting but perhaps not surprising to see that Kinect features in the new Xbox 360 ads running in the UK this week. The new ad showcases the appearance of the new device while mentioning the hard disk size, its wi-fi and the claim that it’s “Ready for Kinect”. My old Xbox 360 is ready […]

Mega Man Universe trailer is pretty funky

July 19, 2010 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

Capcom have released a trailer for the re-invented Mega Fan franchise. We don’t have much information but it looks a bit like Capcom are trying to tap into retro culture and unearth themselves a franchise with both creditability and some cash earning skills. That said; the trailer is pretty cool.

Zombie Queen Mary banned from London Underground

July 17, 2010 by Andrew Girdwood 1 Comment

Here’s a good one. An advert for the London Dungeon has been banned by the ASA after it freaked out children using the London Tube station it featured in. The ad was for the new 2010 Bloody Mary Tudo exhibit and featured in a row of static posters. Many people clearly weren’t expecting it to… […]

Fantasy Westward Journey anime TV ad

July 17, 2010 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

Fantasy Westward Journey is a popular online CRPG in China. What we have here is an advert created by the agency JWT Shanghai for the game. I swear the music sounds like Turning Japanese by The Vapors and wouldn’t that be a quirky choice for a Chinese ad rich in anime art style.
