There’s a lot of geek cred in Gaston Leroux’s The Phantom of the Opera and I don’t mind admitting that I like Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical version. I’m clearly not the only geek who feels this way as Random Encounters have been inspired. After Princess Peach manages to musically destroy much of the Mushroom Kingdom […]
Geeky music videos
Welcome to the Music category, where we turn up the volume on the sounds of geek culture. This is your destination for epic gaming soundtracks, synthwave scores, chiptune artists, and bands whose lyrics are inspired by our favourite fandoms. We celebrate the music that provides the backdrop to our adventures, from the sweeping orchestrations of a fantasy epic to the pulsing beats of a cyberpunk future.
We have a special appreciation for the visual side of music, and this section is always on the lookout for clever, creative, and unapologetically geeky music videos. If a song tells a story or an artist has a unique vision, you'll likely find their videos featured here. Tune in and discover your next geek anthem.
Talk Nerdy To Me
I recognise the Jason Derulo song that Talk Nerdy to Me is a parody of. This is good. You need to recognise the original in order to get maximim enjoyment from this. Equally, if you’re fed up of Derulo’s Talk Dirty then you’ve probably already decided to skip this one.
The drone orchestra performs for you
Is the future here? This orchestra of drones play a cracking cover of the Space Odyssey theme. I know nothing about music so forgive me when I say “the drones even manage to do the slidy bits” perfectly. With one success under their wings these squad of dronecopters then move on to master some other […]
DuckTales the Soul version
Scott Bradlee’s time turns to the old classic – DuckTales and presents this soulful cover version. As far as remakes go this manages to be both out of the box and dead centre to common sense. That’s a good trick. Love the cover? You can grab it on iTunes.
Music video: The Lava
The Lava is a song by the French ban Equateur. The music video a sci-fi styled with bold colours and shapes, filled with robots and drama. The animation is by Kadavre Exquis and very much on form for the shop. If you like the song you can grab it from iTunes.
The Game of Thrones medley
It’s a mashup of some recent pop songs and Game of Thrones. Very little in the way of spoilers and enough costume to engage your cosplay circuits. The video is the work of The Warp Zone, released just a few days ago is going viral as it approaches half a million views.
Wicked Child: Castlevania on the banjo
Where does Castlevania rate on your nostalgia meter? Do you remember the tunes? I didn’t expect to listen to Castlevania’s Wild Child theme played on a banjo when I crawled out of bed this morning but this is the age of the internet and such wonders are possible. You can hit up Banjo Guy Ollie’s […]
Back to Tamriel worships the Elder Scrolls Online MMO
Are you giving the Elder Scrolls Online a go? What are your impressions? Harry Partridge likes it. He’s put together this animated musical tribute. Partridge has history here; his YouTube channel is full of great animation and this includes The Elder Scroll Adventures with the Dovahkids.
Frozen parody: Do you wanna kill the Batman?
Do you want to build a snowman? In this alternative to one of the songs in Disney’s Frozen Syndey Amber adopts the role of Harley Quinn and tries to talk the Joker into killing the Dark Knight. Do you wanna kill the Batman? Okay, bye.
Smooth jazz cover of Game of Thrones
Scott Bradlee and Dave Koz team up to convert the infamous opening theme of Game of Thrones to a smooth jazz cover. Bradlee is racking up those YouTube hits with his covers and Koz already has nine Grammy nominations under his belt. No Starks were harmed in the making of this video.
