Cute, clever but anger prone robot dinosaur pet

April 29, 2014 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

As someone who shares a flat with a Pleo I’m interested in Boomer. This robot dinosaur looks to be rather quicker and a little more fierce. In particular, Boomer has an angry “chase” mode in which he goes after whoever annoyed it. The best way to annoy the little T-Rex bot? Pull his tail.

Review of the Gadget Show Live 2014

April 9, 2014 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

This year it is the Gadget Show’s 10th birthday and the Gadget Show Live reflected that. Having discussed the event with friends who went I’ll admit it’s divided opinions but I liked it this year and I’ll tell you why. The Gadget Show expo felt diverse this year. Previously, I’ve noted that the expo has […]

Real life Cyclops X-men glasses

April 6, 2014 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

I suppose these are actually the very opposite of Cyclops’ glasses in that they enable you to shoot lasers from your eyes rather than prevent lasers shooting from your eyes. Normally, Laser Gadgets are happy to hand out blueprints to their designs. Not this time. This time it’s too dangerous.

Steampunk BioShock Infinite headphones

February 28, 2014 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

These headphones are a custom job by Edge Works on deviant art. They began life as Aerial 7 Tank Headphones, described as good looking, comfortable and with massive 57mm drivers and then converted with sharpies into a “BioShock Infinite steampunked style”. What do you think? Time to take sharpies to your headphones?

Wonderful heart shaped steampunk 32GB USB

February 15, 2014 by Andrew Girdwood 1 Comment

This is a wonderful build. Sold by Artype on Etsy this handmade heart of wood, rubber, silver and cocobolo is a memory stick too. The design is superb. The tiny USB key pulls out from the wooden heart and into your machine. Okay, as it’s heart shaped it’s perhaps not the very best way to […]

Xbox One Media Remote listing appears on Amazon

February 13, 2014 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

Yesterday Amazon Canada published and then quickly pulled a listing for the Xbox One Media Remote. Oops. Today Amazon UK has a listing for the Official Xbox One Media Remote. Double Oops. At the time of this blog post going live the UK listing hasn’t been pulled. There’s no picture but the page describes the […]

Building the Friday the 13th PlayStation 4 controller

January 29, 2014 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

This custom Dualshock 4 controller was created by /u/Scourge_of_Carpathia and shared to Reddit. It’s a little freaky. You can see the full build process on Imgur and the highlights are here below. Scourge says that it was fairly easy to get the controller open; 5 screws with 4 on the back and 1 inside. The […]

Is the Nvidia Tegra K1 a 192-core chip?

January 7, 2014 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

On paper and in these demos the Tegra K1 chip is impressive. We’ve got quadcore smartphones and things like 8-core PCs already – but this chip has 192. In other words it can turn your Android tablet into a machine with the same graphical oomph as your PlayStation 4 or Xbox One. But wait… is […]
