The dinosaur of Faith

March 30, 2014 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

There’s a town called Faith in South Dakota. The famous T-rex skeleton that was named Sue was found nearby. This, though, is a different sort of dinosaur. This T-rex is a scrap metal sculpture by the artist/cowboy John Lopez. Via Dakotagraph.

8 visions of the dragon god Shenlong

March 13, 2014 by Andrew Girdwood 2 Comments

In Chinese mythology Shenlong (or Shen-lung; translating to spirit dragon) is the master of storms and bringer of rain. He has significance equal to that of the celestial dragon Tianlong. By VampirePrincess007 / Natalia on Deviant Art. I first encountered Shenlong by watching Dragon Ball. It’s that image of a huge, spiralling green dragon that […]

Cute but deadly childhood favourites… the graffiti of Herr Nilsson

There is an official point of contact and you can find Herr Nilsson’s work in the Keszler Gallery alongside names like Banksy. There is a monkey character called Herr Nilsson in the Swedish children series […]

Hussar: blade first fantasy

March 9, 2014 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

Levy’s worked on projects like Tron Legacy, Assassin’s Creed and Prometheus and is a master at finding an interesting angle. The title “Hussar” probably comes from the light cavalry unit that originated in […]

March 5, 2014 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

Spoiler risk if you’re willfully behind in your Game of Thrones. Surely “spoiler” as a statute of limitations on it. The Luke and Darth relationship isn’t a spoiler anymore, right? If these impressive Game of Thrones figures, complete with battle damage, look rather too impressive and arty to be official Game of Thrones figures it […]

Sengoku Batman art series

March 1, 2014 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

“Sengoku” is a period of history from Japan that’s sometimes also called the Warring States Period. It foreshadows the unification of political power and the Tokugawa shogunate. Artist Scott Wade, who currently works at Airtight Games, is the talent behind this set of “Sengoku Batman” illustrations. I’ve no idea whether the style is perfectly right […]
