Skip back in time to the era of Dungeons & Dragons 3rd edition. The Player’s Handbook and Dungeon Master’s Guide are out already so which book full of monsters comes next?
The answer is the Creature Collection.
That’s right. Scarred Land’s Creature Collection was the first bestiary for 3rd edition Dungeons & Dragons, coming out before the official Monster Manual. It was a book that became the setting, with the other supplements following on from the world’s defining monsters.
Now, Onyx Path is working with Handiwork Games to bring the best of those Scarred Lands beasts into a new Creature Collection. Handiwork Games is led by ex-Cubicle 7 creative director Jon Hodgson, a fantastic illustrator. It is no surprise to see that even before the Creature Collection Kickstarter launches there’s art for the book already.
Scarred Lands Creature Collection 5e previews
Jon Hodgson, the boss at Handiwork Games told us;
The overriding thing we heard from you, the 5e players, is that you want to be able to find what you’re looking for when you come to use a bestiary. So in addition to several handy indexes created by topic, the Scarred Land Creature Collection will include a handy graphic navigation system to help you find adversaries to fit your needs, be they by terrain or Challenge Rating.”
