A D&D gaming group in Springport, America, faced either jail time or $1,000 in fines plus $1,000 for every day they kept gaming. The problem? A neighbour reported them for gambling.
The Facebook screengrab comes from one of the gamers in Cris Sidhe’s group. In a Google+ post Sidhe admitted that the gamers did joke about Nerd Poker but that certainly wasn’t what was going on.
Cris is a Teamster and already had a lawyer ready. An initial discussion with Code Enforcement and his lawyer didn’t produce much results. Sidhe summed up the communication with “I’ve no clue what you’re talking about and you’ll have to take it up with the judge!”
A later addition to the G+ thread brought good news that a court appearance would be unnecessary. The group ‘got off’ with a cease & desist order for any illegal activities. This can be disregarded if the group wasn’t doing anything wrong in the first place.
Gamer Geek wrath….
Didn’t we get past this crap by 1990? I mean it’s actual D&D, the same game that got the bogus attention in the Reagan administration…
Game of Life has dice and counterfeit money. Maybe if you ordered pizza and invited the neighbor over he won’t feel left out.. but he’s probably a pervert that was offended you didn’t flirt back with him .
“No illegal activities” – hope nobody was playing a rogue
Game of Life has a spinner — unless there’s been a significant change in the last 20 years. But Monopoly has dice and play money, too!
wtf did i just read? People don’t know about DnD?
So, where is “Springport, America”???
Cayuga County, NY
Town of Springport,
Village of Union Springs
Seems that the Google-Post was taken down following questions about the truthfulness
of the story … Perhaps Cris Sidhe has some answers ?
This is the first story I’ve read on this site. I hope your writing is normally better than this.
It’s not. No. This is all I’ve got. I’ll make a note that I’ve failed the Dan Paddock test and will be judged accordingly.
The story is mostly true. The original poster made it more about himself and twisted things a bit. The group nor any individuals were ever named. I was accused of operating an illegal business from my home. The business? Never was one. I have a custom gaming shed in my back yard that I game in. Apparently someone thought it was gambling & video slots. It was just D&D and other games. We do use a TV Display and roll a lot of dice. They went on Social media and downloaded a bunch of pictures of a bunch of tabletop… Read more »

Haha! I had the same reason. When I saw “Springport, America” it made me question the authenticity of the post.. Who in America only identifies city and country?
*response (not “reason”, blasted keyboard!)
Game of life has a dial you spin for 1 – 10.
What the heck? I’m a Christian who has often gone to a particular couples home for games nights, with some games involving dice. Once, when my church had a youth group (was a leader), we hosted a games night with some games involving dice. No money involved, no gambling of any kind. For the former, sometimes there are multiple cars at the house. Same thing was true for the youth group (was held on Friday night’s) games night. Since when does multiple cars showing up to same residence and dice automatically = gambling?
So it’s a Roulette Wheel!!!
I was one of the people that found many parts of the story a bit incredible and posted a question about it… then the entire post was removed…
@drew311stylee — Cris’ last response says “I was on holiday” — who in america says that? We all say “I was on vacation” or “I was out of town” — Especially a NY Teamster? Nobody raised in NY is going to say “I was on holiday” — I still call shenanigans :)
You can’t fix stupid.

I may have been born in the southern US but I was raised both abroad and in the states. I often refer to the US as the states, I also at times say Holiday instead of a vacation and may at times use language used more often abroad than here. It doesn’t invalidate what is said. We are a diverse species, one would think we would have gotten over such petty suspicions by now. It was such nonsense that often incited groups to treat others badly. Ones looks, features, speech or manner being different was cause to eye them with… Read more »
