Quebec City publisher Knight Errant Media will launch a BackerKit campaign on 13 October to fund Titan Effect Zero, a standalone espionage tabletop roleplaying game powered by the Year Zero Engine. Lead designer Christian Nommay is rebuilding the biopunk spy setting as a clean reboot, replacing the game’s original Savage Worlds rules with step dice mechanics.
The crowdfunding campaign runs for 18 days and closes on 31 October. Backers who follow the pre-launch page gain immediate access to a 90-page quickstart PDF containing the basic rules, five pre-generated operatives, and two introductory missions.

The two-year hiatus since 2024
Knight Errant Media originally planned to launch Titan Effect Zero in early December 2024, following Geek Native’s initial report on the system migration. That campaign quietly stalled before launch, leading to an unannounced two-year hiatus while the studio reworked the material into a self-contained volume.
The new release severs ties with the Savage Worlds Adventure Edition (SWADE) rules that powered the original Titan Effect: Declassified Edition. Rather than acting as a setting companion that requires a third-party core book, Titan Effect Zero packages its bio-augmented psychic warfare directly into a bespoke build of Free League’s open gaming engine.

Repurposed art and adaptation history

Christian Nommay, lead designer at Knight Errant Media, told Geek Native:
Titan Effect Zero is a new edition of Titan Effect RPG, and will this time be a stand-alone corebook and powered by the Year Zero Engine, using the step dice mechanics. This new version is also a light reboot, as it will correct and update some of Titan Effect previous material.
Titan Effect Zero Corebook will be a full-colour 250+ page book, with:
- Complete rules to create your own super spy.
- More than 80 powers and unique abilities.
- A large variety of weapons, gadgets, and equipment, plus a fast-resolving requisition system to tailor your gear to each new mission.
- Fast and exciting rules for combat, chases, hacking, etc.
- Information and details about Titan Effect’s universe, including SPEAR’s functioning, the main enemy factions, and how to use them in your campaign.
- Campaign ideas and a Mission Generator to help you quickly build exciting adventures.
- More than 40 NPCs and creatures, and rules to create your own.
- A high-octane mission for a fresh team of SPEAR operatives.
Christian added;
In addition to the corebook and the usual add-ons (cards, GM screens, etc.), an artbook will also be available–returning backers and Early Birds will get the digital version for free. Titan Effect has gone through many changes and iterations before becoming a tabletop RPG. Originally, it was aimed at being a comic book and an animated series. Over the years I have gathered a lot of art from different artists and had my fair share of setbacks. So, this is an opportunity to not only highlight all the artists who graced this project with their art and creativity, but also to show some art never seen before.”
Tactical espionage and evolutionary warfare
The setting puts players in the shoes of operatives working for SPEAR, an international clandestine organisation fighting a shadow war against rogue corporations, private military armies, and secret societies. Characters blend traditional espionage tradecraft with biological enhancements and psychic abilities.
By opting for the step dice build of the Year Zero Engine, where escalating attributes and skills grant larger die types (d6 to d12) rather than rolling larger dice pools, Knight Errant Media aims to deliver faster tactical combat, vehicle chases, and technical infiltration. The book also introduces an abstract gear-requisition mechanic designed to equip teams rapidly before clandestine insertions.
