A chat during Tabletop Scotland with ABS of More Fun With Games (and Cymera Festival) led us to uncover news of an upcoming megagame in our home city of Edinburgh – called Rebel Country: Squadron of Rogues, happening on Saturday 7th November.
We’ve now got a couple of exclusive images to share with you about that, and some more information about what the game involves. Rebel Country: Squadron of Rogues describes itself as “a megagame loosely based on Star Wars Andor, wholly inspired by Scotland and the current political and cultural climate we find ourselves in.”
Designed to interrogate (pun intended) themes of resistance and rebellion and provoke thoughts of what it takes to foster community, collectivity and an ethical, sustainable, living culture and future for us all. Although some will have to temporarily embody the power of the dark side… Of course most importantly we will be providing some high stakes fun and games for all factions, Imperial, Rebel or otherwise!
Deliberately taking place shortly after the latest mid-term elections in the USA, in a time of turbulence when the importance of standing up is unquestioned; ABS and Ciaran have designed the game to highlight the potential strengths and pitfalls of forming common bonds to resist structures of oppression/galactic overlords.
The experience itself has been designed to take inspiration from real-life strategies of political and social resistance, using game design principles that will immerse players and enable them to inhabit the roles and ask questions! (Such as the value of various factions and stratagems, for instance).

I’m loving the inclusion of the Kelpies in the first pic! This looks like a really fun game. We’ve also got the official trailer, which is less of an exclusive, but check it out below. We can see a very Scottish theme forming!
What to expect from Squadron of Rogues
Squadron of Rogues is set to be an all-day megagame running from approximately 10am to 5pm (breaks included) at the Queen Charlotte Rooms. There will be plenty of opportunity for players to socialise and grab food and drinks at the venue afterwards, if they choose.
The megagame has been described as a “roller coaster of a day, intense, adrenaline-filled and challenging as well as a whole lot of fun and an opportunity to reflect on what it means to resist. As such, we would say it is suitable for 16+ and those seeking a more adventurous day! We will have theming/décor and AV atmospherics in our wonderful central Leith.”
You can turn up in a costume (in fact, it’s encouraged but not compulsory!), and there will be capacity for around 60 people split into various teams, factions, friends and foes. There will be elements of TTRPGs and live-action roleplaying games, along with plenty of improv and intrigue!
The Queen Charlotte Rooms is a fab venue to hold an event like this, as it’s close to public transport and other amenities if you’re looking to refuel pre or post-game. Please note, it’s not a fully accessible venue, but the hosts will try their best to accommodate any accessibility requests.
