Orbital Blues captures the aesthetic of classic 90s anime like Cowboy Bebop, gritty sci-fi like Firefly, and retro-futuristic space Westerns. Built on the rules-light chassis derived from Best Left Buried, the game uses a straightforward D6 pool system driven by three core stats: Muscle, Grit, and Savvy. Instead of complex character classes or heavy tactical skill paths, player narrative and interpersonal relationships sit front and centre.
Your characters are Interstellar Outlaws: folks operating on the margins of a hyper-capitalist galaxy where space travel is cheap, life is hard, and debt is ever-present. Every character balances Gambits, their special talents and heroic tricks, against Troubles, which represent their past heartbreaks, flaws, and personal baggage. Crews must manage their ship, scramble for salvage or bounty contracts, and try to keep enough fuel in the tank to make it to the next system.
The Afterburn companion bundle expands this sandbox considerably. The main Afterburn sourcebook provides an in-universe ship brochure, full rules for android characters, and guidance for running sandbox campaigns. Alongside eight standalone pamphlet adventures in Rogue Anthems and the card-driven solo game The Wanderer, this dual promotion delivers everything needed for long-term campaigns across the galaxy.
Both offers run simultaneously and expire at midnight Pacific time on Wednesday, 29 July. All files delivered through Bundle of Holding are strictly DRM-free and can be synced directly to your DriveThruRPG library.
