Green Ronin Publishing has officially released the core rulebook for Valiant Adventures, bringing the long-gestating superhero roleplaying game to retail digital distribution. The 135-page full-colour book, designed by tabletop veterans Steve Kenson and Alexander Thomas, is now available on DriveThruComics alongside a secondary setting sourcebook titled Worlds of Valiant.

The launch introduces the gritty, nanite-infused, and morally complex universe of Valiant Entertainment to the mechanical framework of Mutants & Masterminds. Players can now natively build or assume the roles of iconic comic book characters such as Bloodshot, Faith, and X-O Manowar, using a highly customised version of the d20-based superhero engine.
From Crowdfunding to the Catalogue
The journey of Valiant Adventures to active retail availability has been a lengthy one. The project was initially teased to the public with a free quickstart preview several years ago, leaving a noticeable gap in the timeline between its crowdfunding origins and its sudden appearance in the DriveThruComics catalogue. This retail arrival comes at a uniquely packed moment for the Seattle-based Green Ronin Publishing. The studio is currently splitting its operational focus between this launch, a significant romantic fantasy crowdfunding campaign on BackerKit, and the ongoing development of its next-generation Mutants & Masterminds scheduled for late 2026.
Mechanically, the Valiant Adventures Hero’s Handbook relies on the established and highly modular third edition architecture of Mutants & Masterminds. The core rules emphasise rapid, cinematic superhero action requiring only a single 20-sided die. It features a flexible character creation system that scales from street-level psiots to cosmic powerhouses, anchored by the game’s signature “Hero Point” economy, which lets players alter narrative outcomes or shrug off damage during pivotal combat turns.
Custom Archetypes and Cosmic Settings
A major portion of the core book is dedicated to helping Gamemasters translate the Valiant comic line’s specific tone into active campaigns. Rather than relying on generic superhero tropes, Steve Kenson and Alexander Thomas have designed quick-start archetypes tailored specifically to the setting’s distinct lore. These include rules for creating nanite-enhanced soldiers, high-tech armoured vanguard pilots, and powerful psychic anomalies known as Harbingers.
The companion release, Worlds of Valiant, expands the scope of the game beyond Earthbound operations. The sourcebook details the myriad, distinct dimensions and eras that define the comic publisher’s history. Gamemasters can transition their campaigns into the prehistoric legions of Britannia, the haunting supernatural reality of the Deadside, the mysterious temporal expanse of the Faraway, or the high-tech, towering spires of New Japan.
The digital edition features fully bookmarked navigation and custom interior artwork from an expansive roster of legendary comic illustrators, including Raúl Allén, Clayton Crain, and Bryan Hitch.
