Asmodee has unveiled Star Wars: Unlimited Icons, a new 194-card ‘mini-set’ for the popular trading card game, during a showcase at the UK Games Expo at the NEC in Birmingham this weekend. Stepping in as the fourth release in the game’s annual cycle, the set is positioned between March’s A Lawless Time and the upcoming July 2026 release of Ashes of the Empire. The release aims to bridge the gap for new and returning players by focusing on core mechanics rather than introducing complex, set-specific rules.

The announcement at the UK’s largest tabletop convention highlights a strategic pivot towards accessibility for the two-year-old game. Icons features a streamlined pack structure, with booster packs containing nine cards rather than the standard assortment, and deliberately eschews draft or sealed play. Players can expect a mix of returning commons with updated artwork alongside a brand-new lineup of Rare and Legendary character cards, including eight new Leaders such as Darth Vader (Vigilance/Villainy) and Leia Organa (Cunning/Heroism).
Despite its framing as an entry-level product, Icons introduces compelling chase elements for veteran roleplaying games and TCG collectors alike. A brand-new Legendary card, Anakin Skywalker, was revealed at the expo. The hard-hitting unit allows players to search their decks for a Darth Vader card upon defeat and ignores aspect penalties for Darth Vader cards in the discard pile. Furthermore, the newly introduced ‘Booster 4-Pack’ includes an exclusive alternate-art Cassian Andor unit card not available in standard boosters.
Roger Martin, Marketing Director at Asmodee, said in a statement,
We’re thrilled to reveal Icons at this year’s UK Games Expo! Star Wars™: Unlimited is at its best when you’re sat around a table and getting straight into gameplay. But if you’re brand new or coming back after a break, it can be a little tricky knowing where to start – and that’s where Icons breaks down that barrier. We can’t wait for fans, both old and new, to get their hands on the set and show the community what they’re made of.”

The studio appears to be targeting a specific demographic with this release, offering a lower price point compared to standard set boosters, though exact retail pricing remains unconfirmed. The set will feature no Spotlight Decks or Carbonite Edition boosters, keeping the focus squarely on acquiring staple cards and recognisable characters like Grogu, Savage Opress, and the newly added Jar Jar Binks.
Cards from Icons will remain Premier-legal until the standard rotation alongside A Lawless Time and Ashes of the Empire. The hype generated on the show floor directly echoes the buzz from the recent Star Wars Unlimited 2026 Convention Exclusive bringing grayscale bounty hunters to UKGE.
