Catching up with Midlam Miniatures at the NEC Birmingham during the UK Games Expo 2026, Geek Native secured an exclusive look into the shadowy machinations of Faction, a brand-new card game. Launched this weekend, Faction is a fast-paced game of strategy and control for two to four players.

Players step into the shoes of behind-the-scenes controllers, squabbling over influence as a country collapses into political and social chaos. Despite the heavy theme, the gameplay is lightning-fast, wrapping up in around 25 minutes to keep the focus strictly on tabletop mechanics rather than reflecting on today’s real-world societal shake-ups.
While attendees are just getting their hands on the £15 self-funded core game, Geek Native can exclusively reveal that an untitled sequel and expansion is already in active development.
Designed by Paul Scott, best known for the Dwarven quest for gold and glory, Stalagbite!, Faction came to life at a breakneck pace. From its initial concept to the shrink-wrapped boxes sitting on the UKGE demo tables, the entire production process was unusually swift for the roleplaying games and tabletop industry.
The upcoming, yet-to-be-titled sequel marks a strategic shift for Midlam. While the original Faction was entirely self-funded, the sequel will likely turn to Kickstarter. Crucially, this new project is being developed as a hybrid product: it will function as a completely standalone game that does not require the original to play, whilst also serving as an expansion. Players who own both will be able to combine the two decks for a new, unrevealed style of play.
In the meantime, the core Faction box delivers a tight, highly replayable package containing 55 cards, four faction tokens, and a rulebook.
