Free League Publishing has released a revised and expanded hardback edition of Frontier Scum, the “Acid Western” roleplaying game created by Karl Druid. Originally a minimalist indie darling, this updated version, titled More Rulebook, is now available through the publisher’s webshop and global hobby stores. The release marks a significant production upgrade for the title, moving from its underground origins into a high-quality physical format supported by the Swedish publishing powerhouse behind Mörk Borg.

Co-developed by Games Omnivorous, the new edition retains the original game’s stripped-down, almanack-inspired ruleset while significantly increasing the available content for outlaws in the “Lost Frontier”. The hardback includes 19 additional backgrounds—bringing the total to 31—alongside new name tables and optional rules for “gun hands”. These additions aim to provide more mechanical variety without abandoning the game’s core identity as a violent, psychedelic take on the Spaghetti Western genre.
The volume includes the core rules, character creation guidelines covering everything from stolen horses to heavy weaponry, and the complete adventure Escape the Organ Rail. To support longer-form play, Karl Druid has included expanded tables for NPCs, hunting, carousing, and strange relics. Inspired by films such as El Topo and Bone Tomahawk, the setting remains focused on a world of insatiable greed and surreal danger.
Nils Karlén, co-founder of Free League, said in a statement, “Frontier Scum has become a beloved tabletop RPG over the years, and we are excited to be publishing a new edition of the game. While it’s not designed by us, the work of Karl Druid embodies everything Free League aspires for, including immersive world-building, imaginative character creation, and exciting campaigns for players to gather round and enjoy.”
The physical edition is priced at $39.99 and includes instant PDF access for customers purchasing directly from the publisher. This release arrives just ahead of the UK Games Expo in Birmingham, where Free League is expected to showcase the new volume to a wider international audience.
