Forbidden Planet has announced a landmark success for its Pokémon Day 2026 celebrations, reporting record-breaking attendance and its highest-ever single-day footfall for the franchise across its ten UK Megastores. Marking the brand’s 30th anniversary on 27 February, the event saw dedicated “Trainers” queueing from the early hours at the London, Newcastle, and Birmingham flagship locations.

The celebration capitalised on a historic week for the franchise, following a global Pokémon Presents broadcast that revealed Pokémon Winds and Waves (Gen 10) and the shadow-drop of FireRed and LeafGreen on Nintendo Switch. For many UK fans, Forbidden Planet served as the primary physical gathering point to share in the excitement, reinforcing the retailer’s long-standing status as a vital ally to the geek community.

In a show of transparency typical of the retailer’s fan-first approach, Forbidden Planet confirmed via its official event page that while they would not be hosting “Organised Play” TCG promos, which are reserved for smaller sanctioned tournament hubs, they would instead provide a massive “party atmosphere” for casual collectors. This included a surge in demand for the first-ever LEGO Pokémon sets, which Forbidden Planet seems to have missed out on, and a sale on plushies from Jazwares, which the retailer tempted hundreds with.
By leaning into its role as a “community hub,” Forbidden Planet effectively bridged the gap for families and casual fans who lack access to a permanent official Pokémon Centre in the UK. The sheer scale of the turnout, particularly at the London Megastore on Shaftesbury Avenue, highlights the enduring power of physical retail to unite fans during major cultural milestones.
Forbidden Planet extends its thanks to the thousands of fans who helped make Pokémon Day 2026 a memorable occasion. With the 30th-anniversary celebrations set to continue throughout the year, the retailer has already hinted at “even bigger” events on the horizon.
