As the streaming giant continues to build out its tabletop-inspired library, Deadline reports that Netflix has secured the global rights to Alan R. Moon’s modern classic board game, Ticket to Ride.
A feature film is already in active development as the first project under the deal with Asmodee. The agreement is broad, covering both scripted and unscripted formats, which suggests Netflix could follow the cinematic debut with television spin-offs or reality competitions. This move follows a similar acquisition of rights to Catan, signalling a clear strategy to mine the “Eurogame” boom for franchise potential.

From Tabletop to Big Screen
First launched in 2004, Ticket to Ride has become a cornerstone of the hobby, selling more than 20 million copies worldwide and being translated into over 30 languages. The game’s core loop—collecting coloured train cards to claim railway routes across maps—is inherently more about logistics and competition than a character-driven narrative, providing the writing team with a relatively blank slate for a feature adaptation.
Writers Ben Mekler and Chris Amick are currently attached to pen the screenplay. Darren Kyman will produce for Asmodee, joined by Eric Tannenbaum and Kim Tannenbaum for the Tannenbaum Company, alongside Jonathan Levine and Gillian Bohrer for Megamix.
Alan R. Moon, the game’s author, said in a statement:
Just when I thought life couldn’t get more exciting, Ticket to Ride is teaming up with Netflix. I can’t wait to help bring these exciting projects to the millions of fans of the game.”
The Growing Netflix Tabletop Library
Netflix is rapidly expanding its portfolio of game-to-screen adaptations. According to Deadline, Ticket to Ride joins a slate that includes the critical darling Arcane, Castlevania, and the recently released Family Pack (based on The Werewolves of Miller’s Hollow). The streamer is also working on a Monopoly reality series and an adaptation of Exploding Kittens.
For fans looking to revisit the source material before the film arrives, the original Ticket to Ride remains a staple on Amazon, frequently appearing in digital formats and various international map expansions.
