Amazon MGM drops a teaser for Travis Knight‘s Masters of the Universe, due to hit the big screen in June 2026.
It has been a long, winding, and often perilous road for the live-action return of He-Man, but Amazon MGM Studios has finally confirmed that Masters of the Universe is a reality.
Today, the studio released a 30-second teaser trailer for the film, confirming a theatrical release date of June 5, 2026. While this is technically a “teaser for a trailer” (with the full footage promised for tomorrow), it offers the first concrete look at the tone Director Travis Knight is bringing to Eternia.
The clip leans heavily into the franchise’s heritage, opening with a montage of 1980s touchstones – CRT televisions, sugary breakfast cereals, and aerobics videos—before transitioning to the classic Filmation cartoon. The static then clears to reveal Nicholas Galitzine (The Idea of You) as Prince Adam, claiming the Power Sword.
A Knight in Charge

For many geeks, the most promising name attached to this project is not a star, but the director. Travis Knight, known for the critically acclaimed Kubo and the Two Strings and for successfully soft-rebooting the Transformers franchise with Bumblebee, is at the helm. Knight’s background in animation at Laika has often translated into a strong visual identity and a respect for source material that action figure movies often lack.
The synopsis released alongside the teaser suggests a story of estrangement and return. Prince Adam has been separated from Eternia for 15 years, returning to find his home “shattered under the fiendish rule of Skeletor”.
Joining Galitzine in the cast are Camila Mendes (Riverdale) as Teela, Idris Elba as the veteran man-at-arms Duncan, and Jared Leto as the villainous Skeletor. The voice of Roboto will be provided by Kristen Wiig.
From Development Hell to Eternia

It is difficult to overstate how long this movie has been in the works. The property has bounced between studios for decades, with Sony Pictures and Netflix both previously attempting to mount a live-action adaptation. The Netflix iteration, which was set to be directed by the Nee brothers, was cancelled in 2023 over budget concerns, despite the streaming giant finding success with the animated series She-Ra and the Princesses of Power and the more controversial Masters of the Universe: Revelation.
Amazon MGM swept in to rescue the rights, and with a 2026 release date now locked, Mattel finally has the jewel in the crown of its cinematic universe to follow the success of Barbie.
While You Wait

With the film still months away, tabletop gamers can visit Eternia early. The franchise has seen a resurgence on the table in recent years. CMON’s Masters of the Universe: The Board Game (formerly Clash for Eternia) offers a miniatures-heavy skirmish experience, while European fans have had access to Archon Studio’s Masters of the Universe: Fields of Eternia.
For those looking to dress the part for the premiere, Fun.com currently stocks a range of officially licensed costumes and gifts, while collectors hunting for figures might find stock at The Entertainer, which frequently carries Mattel’s action figure lines.
