Twilight Sword, the new tabletop roleplaying game from Italian studio Two Little Mice and publisher Free League, launched its crowdfunding campaign on BackerKit today. The project secured over €200,000 in pledges within the first six hours, prompting the studio to announce the immediate addition of a Solo Mode.
While the game draws heavily on video game classics like The Legend of Zelda, Final Fantasy, and Dragon Quest, the inclusion of a single-player mode was not part of the original pitch. However, following community requests during the launch window, Two Little Mice confirmed that a dedicated mode is now in development.
To handle the adaptation, the studio has brought in Matt Kay, a British designer based in Germany. Kay is a familiar name in the solo roleplaying community, having previously authored the official solo rules for Outgunned, Forbidden Lands, and The Walking Dead Universe RPG. He is also the creator of Year Zero Mini, a Gold-medal best-selling title on DriveThruRPG.
To ensure the physical production timeline remains unaffected by this late addition, the Solo Mode will be released as a PDF, which will be free to all backers at any pledge level.
A “Love Letter” to JRPGs
The game itself is pitched as a “heartfelt love letter” to the console JRPGs of the ’90s and the atmospheric storytelling of Studio Ghibli. It focuses on slice-of-life heroic fantasy, where players take on the role of Champions attempting to restore hope to the land of Radia.
Riccardo “Rico” Sirignano, co-founder of Two Little Mice, said in a statement,
This game is a passion project that combines our love for classic video games and the limitless possibilities of tabletop roleplaying. We can’t wait for players to embark on their own unforgettable journeys in Radia.”
The campaign offers several physical products, including the Core Rulebook, a Lands of Radia guide for Game Masters, and a boxed Starter Set. There is also a Card Chest containing over 200 cards for monsters, weapons, and map tiles.
Stretch Goals and Early Bird Bonuses

The rapid funding has unlocked additional content beyond the Solo Mode. The “Kokkoros”, described by the creators as “mysterious, adorable, kinda dumb spirits”, have been added to the Lands of Radia supplement. These spirits can function as quest givers, helpers, or simply agents of chaos.
Future stretch goals include a new Champion archetype for the Starter Set and a custom soundtrack composed by Jeff Grammi, who previously scored Outgunned and Household.
Backers who pledge within the first 72 hours of the campaign will receive a physical enamel pin and a set of cards introducing the “Mallard” kin, a playable duck-like race.
Tomas Härenstam, CEO of Free League Publishing, said in a statement, “2LM are super passionate about Twilight Sword, and I think every game needs that kind of passion and that kind of champion, and that’s what they’re bringing to this one.”
A free preview of the game, exceeding 30 pages, is currently available for download on the project’s BackerKit page.
