An Edinburgh-based developer is tackling one of tabletop roleplaying’s common admin hurdles—the party shopping trip—with a new mobile app called Dungeon Trader. The project is currently in its pre-launch phase and is heading towards a Kickstarter campaign.
The app is designed to streamline the process of buying and selling gear in games like Dungeons & Dragons. It functions as a shared, live environment for players and their Game Master.
According to the developer, the system allows GMs to create custom vendors and populate their inventories with specific items. Players in the group can then access these shops on their own mobile devices, enabling them to buy or trade items in real time without having to halt the game’s narrative flow.
Dungeon Trader is pitched as a way to avoid pausing the action to sift through character sheets and rulebooks. The app automates the maths, adjusting player currency automatically and maintaining a full transaction history for the group to reference.

The team is currently focused on building an audience ahead of the crowdfunding launch. Players and GMs interested in following the project’s progress can sign up for an email list on the official Dungeon Trader website to receive updates and be notified of the Kickstarter launch.
