Apoki is a rabbit woman, a singer and not real. That’s right, she’s a virtual YouTuber and perhaps an underrated one.
Our digital diva’s latest song pinged my radar after launching this month. It’s called Chemical and seems to show two sides of our singer.
While Apoki isn’t real, it is likely there’s a human doing the singing. But, who?
Apoki’s corporate overlords, AFun Interactive, do not say, but there’s fan chatter to suggest it could be Voice of Korea runner-up U Sung-eun. Powerful contracts are likely in place to prevent the human from speaking up.
Apoki’s first YouTube video dates back to 2019, her first single to 2021, and her first Japanese song came a year later. “Chemical” is her fourth English song. That’s an impressive range because even if AI-generated videos are getting easier and cheaper to make, it’s no easier for human singers to master songs in so many different languages.
