Enthusiast bookbinder Paolo Greco and his publishing company, Lost Pages, were at Tabletop Scotland this weekend. That was a bold move, as they have a Kickstarter for a system-agnostic, weird little spellbook running.
However, it meant Geek Native got the chance to see the first-ever public demo of the very impressive physical prototype of the scroll book. We’ve a wee video of our own, but you can also see more at the project page.
The pitch is that we could do with spells that feel more occult and more intricate than fireball variants. It would be a joy to surprise and delight players by putting an ‘actual’ spellbook on the table.
It’s also possible that some gamers are just weirdly addicted to cool little books.
How strange are the spells here? There are several pages per spell. If you get the physical book, then there’s a scroll bound in a hardcover. Each spell is illustrated with that same occult vibe.
Pergamino Barocco is not bound to any given system; Paolo describes it as mostly system-agnostic.
Twelve years after its original release, Lost Pages brings back a new edition of the Pergamino Barocco, the first issue of Lost Pages books, in a new luxury edition. The Pergamino contains ten spells in a beautiful concertina scroll. The book will be a three-panel hardcover with custom endpapers, bound in bookcloth with an illustrated panel and gilded writing, wrapped in butter paper, and sealed with a warding sticker to make sure nothing weird happens to it.
There’s good and bad news on the tiers. Firstly, the digital release of the book and all the stretch goals unlock at just £10. That’s also due in December 2025.
The hardcover, once again with all the stretch goals, is available at £25. Lost Pages will ship it worldwide. There’s a much longer wait for this; October 2026.
However, there’s an even rarer edition, the “Cabal – Black Silk” version, and that’s sold out. All 50 copies are going at £50.
The campaign ends on 26 September 2025.
