Get ready for an electrifying blast from the past! The iconic engineering competition series Scrapheap Challenge is getting a modern-day revamp with Zapheap, a bold new pilot, and it’s bringing some serious talent along for the ride. British YouTuber, engineer, and inventor Colin Furze is set to co-host the series alongside the original Scrapheap Challenge presenter, Robert Llewellyn.

Zapheap aims to reignite the spirit of inventive competition, but with a powerful, contemporary twist: electric innovation. In this high-energy pilot, two teams of skilled tinkerers, guided by industry-leading experts, will face off to transform scrap materials into electric-powered machines. All of this will happen under intense time pressure, promising plenty of drama and creative problem-solving.
Filming for Zapheap is scheduled to commence in July 2025. The competing teams will be mentored by Richard Morgan of Electric Classic Cars and Anne Kloppenberg of New Electric, ensuring that their electrified creations are built with genuine expertise. Operating from top-secret workshops, these teams will have a mere 10 hours to engineer their unique machines. Adding to the excitement, Fully Charged presenters Imogen Bhogal and Jack Scarlett will provide live updates directly from the heart of the action, giving viewers an inside look at the build process.
Once complete, these innovative masterpieces will be put to the ultimate test in front of a live audience at the Everything Electric Expo in Farnborough this October. The exhilarating races are slated to take place on Saturday, October 11th, and Sunday, October 12th. Robert Llewellyn, Colin Furze, and the Fully Charged team will host these showdowns, offering attendees a front-row seat to the electric-fueled excitement.
Robert Llewellyn expressed his enthusiasm for the collaboration, noting,
We are over the moon to welcome Colin Furze as co-host of Zapheap. His extensive experience and boundless enthusiasm as an engineer, inventor, and presenter make him the perfect person to help bring this inspirational gameshow to life, for both a new generation and those who remember and loved the original. We’ve been lucky enough to welcome Colin as a keynote speaker at our Everything Electric events in London, and we’re thrilled he’ll be joining us to finally make the Zapheap dream a reality.”
Colin Furze added his own thoughts, highlighting the personal significance of the original show:
Scrapheap Challenge was a massive part of my childhood, it’s one of the things that inspired me to start building in the first place. I hope Zapheap sparks a whole new wave of makers to pick up tools and get inventing.” This sentiment perfectly aligns with the show’s goal of inspiring a new generation of DIY enthusiasts and engineers, much like its predecessor did.
