I don’t need any more dice and haven’t tested Hero Forge’s claims that their new dice are balanced but I am incredibly impressed at their custom dice offer.
Hero Forge has, for 10+ years, made it easy to design your own tabletop mini and get it 3d printed. You can even do that in colour. Now, using Kickstarter for marketing and that initial rush of cash, they’re offering 3d printed custom dice. Thousands of backers have signed on for the project.
Hero Forge have special machines for the task (so STL files aren’t available) and can do the full range of gamer die from d4 to d20.
The technology looks similar to the model designing software and you can design pretty intricate minis for inside the die, colour and change up the numbers.
The idea is that these dice are partner pieces to your character mini. Okay, sometimes that’s a bit gory if you have your character’s head locked in a dice but it worked for The Bowler in Mystery Men, so many it’ll work for heroes in Mutants and Masterminds too.
From roleplaying to stat tracking, wargaming to boardgaming, each dice you create becomes an integral part of the stories you tell at the table. Capture funny moments, meaningful memories, and epic adventures by turning each roll into a storytelling experience. Whether it’s the magical artifact that saved the party from the brink of defeat, a beloved pet that occasionally disrupts game night, or the lucky topdeck that seized victory at the last second, Hero Forge Custom Dice memorialize the moments that are important to you.

The reward for backers at $39 is a single custom dice (of a standard dice), and that comes with early access to the Dice Maker and one month of Hero Forge Pro, too.
At $75, backers are thanked with a standard-sized custom dice and a regular-sized mini as well. Sizes get a bit tricky with mini,s but the online system does the maths.
A single XL custom dice is available as a reward to backers. It’s $99. That’s not a dice I’ll bring a convention, but, wow, what a gift.
The combo of XL Dice and a colour statuette is the reward at $189.
$199 is the tier which unlocks a whole set of custom gamer dice, which you can mix and match on, and that comes with three months of Hero Forge Pro.
Hero Forge then offers bundles of increasing size until they hit $10,000. You get 14 sets for that and other perks. No one, yet, has gone this high.
The Kickstarter runs until April 5th, and the estimated delivery is August 2025.
