In Ravensridge Press’s Caught in the Rain, you’ll be your own GM and still have a mystery to investigate.
Moreover, you can set this mystery in a Scottish mansion, the gloomy noir New York streets or a deadly sci-fi Hive city. The campaign is winning Kickstarter, but we’ve only until March 13th to support the project.
You need some dice, a pack of cards and a place to keep notes to play.
There’s a free to download sample version already available via Itch.io. In fact, it’s been there for years, with “This is so cool!” being the only comment so far and from two years ago.
The rules weigh in at about 90 pages and help create the mysteries, and there are campaign objectives that let you play the same character over different scenarios.
Game play works by dividing the cards into a pile for truth and one for clues, then putting aside three secret truths. You have to guess those or figure them out.
In Caught in the Rain, you play as an investigator with some motivation to solve a mystery. Your investigator might be a grizzled detective, but they might be someone else entirely.

Backers who pledge AU$15 (about £8) get a PDF copy of the game and form fillable PDF character and mystery sheets.
At AU$ 55, there is a physical copy of Caught in the Rain delivered and Ravensridge Press joke/don’t joke that it’ll come in a brown paper package. My neighbours would freak.
There’s a retailer tier and a special AU$ 150 option for a hardcover, playing cards, two handmade dice, books and a journal. This tier is limited to 100 and is more than halfway sold out.
Ravensridge Press estimates that the digital version of Caught in the Rain will ship in May, with the physical version due in September of this year.
