Sad Fishe Games won the RPG Publisher Spotlight this month. I’m in touch with some of the team and should get some questions over this week.
Hey, we’re just over a week into the month, and I’ve been much further behind before, so this is looking positive.
I want to start this podcast with a finish. That means I’ll run through the last of the Roll20 top sellers data I have for 2024. As usual, I’ll do the top three; you can get the full top ten on the blog.
To start with, there’s the top selling titles on DriveThruComics.
- Judge Dredd: The Complete P.J. Maybe by Rebellion.
- Star Power and the Mystery of the Zel Gux Dynasty by GT Comics.
- The Top Cow Holiday Special: All Through The House… [One-shot] by Top Cow.
Next up, we’ve the top selling books on DriveThruFiction in 2024.
- Welcome to Arkham: An Illustrated Guide for Visitors by Matt Keefe and others.
- 50 Years of Text Games by Aaron A. Reed.
- Shadowrun: Through the Decades (A Shadowrun Anthology) by Alina Pete and others.
Two more to go, and the penultimate list is the top selling titles on DriveThruCards in 2024.
- Deckula – a solo card game by Dr. Mindflip.
- Asherah Tarot Poker Embossed by Sarah Wheatley.
- UNCHARTED DUNGEONS (Advanced Game System) by LIZUREN GAMES.
Last but not least, and in a return to RPGs, we’ve top selling titles on the Storytellers Vault in 2024.
- Hunter: The Vigil Second Edition by Onyx Path Publishing.
- Dark Eras: Requiem for Rome 2nd Edition by None More Dark Publishing and others.
- The Hedge by Onyx Path Publishing.
Okay, those are some titles from last year and before. Let’s look forward to what’s coming up. Darrington Press, that’s the tabletop games arm of Critical Role, has signed a deal with Macmillian Publishers. Macmillian is a big player in the book industry and will now be tackling logistics and sales for Daggerheart, Tal’Dorei and Candela Obscura.
I noticed the press release tags on “and new titles,” so we can likely expect new game announcements in 2026 and 2027.
Alternatively, if you’re feeling angry at the political choices some people make, you can try the Name Your Own Price TTRPG Leopards Eat Your Face.
That’s from Blackfisk Forlag and is named after the meme from Adrian Bott. Bott tweeted;
I never thought leopards would eat MY face,’ sobs woman who voted for the Leopards Eating People’s Faces Party.”
That sets the tone for the game.
If you’re in the mood for something more passive, you know, like reading, then there’s news from Crunchyroll and a new iOS and Android app for manga. The app launches in the USA and Canada next year. It’s also the only news we’re yet to write up from CES this year, and Bronwen takes the credit.
I saw the little robot sloths that you attach to your bag, which will watch muggers approach you, blinking as cutely as they do, but I spent my time on the Critical Role story instead.
In my defence, I did find time to write up two free-to-download games. The first is the jumpstart for Ultimate Reverie, which is a JRPG hack for Savage Worlds, complete with hit points and monsters that turn into crystals when you defeat them.
The second is Chromatic Shadows from Matrix Ghost Games, which blends occult into cyberpunk. Imagine a cyberpunk world after a corporate war which has left lots of abandoned dark research sites and warehouses in the slums, each filled with occult relics the greedy corps had been investigating.
In bundles, there’s a deal on the Bundle of Holding from Chthonstone Games of Old-School Essential enemies which are well and truly weird and surreal.
Lastly, on Humble, there’s a Night’s Black Agents and Dracula Dossier bundle from Pelgrane Press.
On that note, keep safe, and save the planet.
