Amazon has put forward Ring doorbells for large Black Friday sales.
There’s £50 off the Battery Video Doorbell Plus, and Amazon says that is the lowest price ever.
I have one. It’s telling to me that the most critical Ring accessory I have, a tip I was given from a fellow Ring doorbell owner, isn’t on sale. That’s the Quick Release Battery Pack.
Why do you need a spare battery? You’ll unlikely be able to charge your Ring battery while it’s in your doorbell. As a result, you need two batteries: one for charging and one for powering the doorbell, or else you’ll have downtime when your doorbell has no power. That’s unwelcome!
As a result, I think the best Black Friday tip for any would-be buyer of a Ring doorbell is to get a spare battery.
Ring or Google?
I’ve more Google tech, and I’m a Pixel user, so why did I go to Ring for my doorbell?
At the time, Amazon was touting their flying Always Home Cam. I thought it looked great.
Sadly, Amazon hasn’t made much progress with bringing the prototype to market. Furthermore, Amazon also dropped Alexa Guard.
In other words, since I bought my Ring doorbell, Amazon has gotten worse and not better at protecting my flat.
However, my Ring has been stalwart and robust. I’ve never had any problems with it. I don’t regret the purchase, but I am eager to see Amazon step up their home security tech. I think they should have been more determined with their iRobot plans.
