DriveThruRPG’s heist-themed PocketQuest is over for the year. Let’s hope we get another, as it’s been fun and educational to use it to find talented indie designers.
While the festival is over, the RPGs created for it are still available, and it’s worth looking at Blueberry Wine from Quinn Blackwell
The heist connection isn’t immediately obvious but in this solo horror hexcrawl you have come to the dreadful Fens because they took something from you.
Will you get it back?
You’ve found yourself in the last place that most would willingly go, the Sinking Fens. The dense mist fills your lungs, making each breath forced. The brackish waters whisper promises, luring you into their deceptive depths. The Groun beneath you shifts and cracks, eager to swallow you whole. You shouldn’t have come here, but you had no other choice.
Geek Native had the chance to find out from the game’s designer what their favourite creative challenge was. Quinnsaid;
One of my favorite parts of creating “Blueberry Wine” was building the world of the Sinking Fens. From shaping its mist-covered marshes to weaving a rich history filled with curses, crafting this eerie and immersive setting was incredibly satisfying. It was rewarding to break the history into bite-size pieces of lore and scatter it throughout the entire game, narrative, and mechanics alike.
Blueberry Wine is based on Trophy, adapted for solo play.
