Iko, the designer and founder, and The Lost Bay Studio have smashed the funding goal for the titular The Lost Bay RPG on Kickstarter. The ask was £5,000 and with a week to the tally is nearly at £40,000.
On offer are suburban gothic adventures set in an alternative 1990s. Think stake parks and ghosts or arcade games and wild horses. You can still back the campaign.
PCs in The Lost Bay are in a gang of youngsters who have been touched by the Weird. As a result, they chill with immortals, fight ancient evils and have Power.
The game is inspired by 80s horror and 90s culture.
- Unique Character Creation: Embrace iconic 90s archetypes with Vibes like Splinter, Firestarter, and more. Each offers distinct powers and gear.
- Discover Lore as You Play: Explore a world where the lore is woven into the rules and procedures, unfolding organically as you create characters and dive into the world.
- Fast and Flexible: The core rules are streamlined for easy learning, ensuring quick setup and play for both new and experienced gamers.
- Dangerous and Intense: Combat is fast-paced and deadly, especially when characters tap into their potent Powers – but there are consequences!
- Solo or Group Ready: Enjoy The Lost Bay on your own or with friends, thanks to rules designed to support both styles.
- Explore a Massive World: Delve into seven distinct Districts, each teeming with unique creatures, detailed locations, and pointcrawl adventures.
- Embrace the Weird: The Lost Bay delivers a story-driven experience, where exploration and character growth take centre stage within a dark, fantastical setting.
The Lost Bay is a standalone game for one to six players. It’s a set of two hardback books that contain everything you need to play: character creation, core rules, advanced tips and toolkits, bestiary and adventures. Both books are packed with tables and hooks to spark and play mischievous factions, dark mysteries, and terrifying antagonists.
Backers at £25 will get The Lost Bay RPG in PDF and access to some add-ons.
Those who step up to £35 get The Lost Bay hardcover and stretch goals in print too, both with the PDFs.
At £65, the Urban Legends hardcover is added in print and digital.
Then, at £90, backers also get three adventure zines plus all that’s come before.
There are higher tiers for wholesale, and we can see at least one retailer has gone for ten The Lost Bay books and ten of Urban Legends.
The Kickstarter wraps on the 11th, the PDFs are slated for November and the print is for December this year. Dangerously, retailers have to wait a little longer, which suggests the books won’t rush to retail as it’s polite to wait.
