Netflix will air Hell’s Paradise – Jigokuraku in Japan and some Asian-Pacific countries but not elsewhere; the same is true for Amazon Prime.
Glancing at the powerful trailer will tell you why; blood, naked bodies, brutal monsters. The brand managers must have pushed back, and Crunchyroll will get it instead, and I suspect it’ll be popular.
The series premieres on the 1st of April, with Kaotri Makita at the helm of the studio MAPPA production.
IMDB’s storyline for the show reads;
In the Edo period of Japan, a select group of convicts awaiting execution are offered the chance to be pardoned and freed by the Shogunate of Japan if they go to investigate an island recently discovered southwest of the Ryukyu Kingdom. The convicts are accompanied by elite guards to ensure they won’t escape. Once they reach there, they find themselves overwhelmed by the island’s residents, a host of monsters and their creators, a group of immortal beings. Now the convicts and guards must work together to stop the immortals and escape the island.
Originally, the manga was by Kaku and ran on Shueisha’s Shonen Jump+ site and made the jump to paper later. The story ended in April 2021 with around 4 million copies produced and Viz Media also picked it up.
