February 17, 2023 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

There’s a cute Gollum, sorry, the little bug-eyed sneak is cute here, and a Frodo who manages to be both heroic and cute simultaneously.

Weirdly cute or just ugly? Gollum phone and controller holder

January 21, 2023 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

Firebox says the figure will be coveted by all who see it. That might work for magic rings, but I’m not so sure.

Fun gets all precious over their Lord of the Rings sweaters

November 14, 2022 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

I think one of the best Christmas gifts I bought for someone else (and not me!) was this You Shall Not Pass jumper from Fun.com. They call it an ugly sweater! No way.

Gollum cake is freaky real

December 23, 2014 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

This cake is wonderful. It’s so wonderful it’s more than a little freaky. It looks like you’re being asked to eat Gollum. Made by Karin Klenner of Sweet Little Treat the cake is 30cm high and uses about 1.5kg of modeling chocolate. That’s in addition to about 1kg of fondant. What do you think? Good […]

Gollum versus Smeagol in rap battle

January 2, 2013 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

Rap battles are the turn for turn exchange of insults “sung” in the rap style… so it only makes sense that Gollum would end up in one with, er, with Smeagol. Who do you think won? I’m pretty sure ‘Adam Levine’ comes out of this encounter as the loser.

We’re getting ready for The Hobbit. This will be the series of films which guide the evil of the one ring to the peaceful Shire. It’s when Bilbo finds the ring and Gollum is none to pleased. The Lego builder Iain Health has put together a fantastic LEGO scene showing that famous discovery. Look at […]

October 31, 2012 by Andrew Girdwood 1 Comment

I’m a frequent flying and I’m so very tired of the safety briefings. I know, though, it’s important to pay attention. Perhaps I should book a flight to New Zealand. Air New Zealand have put together an unexpected briefing that manages to hold my attention. Watch it for the cameos; there’s Peter Jackson and Dean […]

LEGO overload [infographic]

February 1, 2012 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

It’s been a LEGO week. My guess is that the tills over at the LEGO shop are ringing happily. Where to start? Okay. Let’s start by trying to creep you out. This LEGO minifig of Gollum from the Lord of the Rings set is pretty darn creepy. Sinister little thing. That didn’t freak me out […]

Geeksplode: Adam Savage sings I Will Survive as Gollum

July 1, 2011 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

Boom! That’s the sound of my geek dna exploding in an overdrive of geek charged geekiness. Awesome. Awesome. Do you have a better word for it? Oh. Yeah; that is Neil Gaiman as one of the radio hosts. It’s such an appropriate song for Gollum to be singing. Clever Gollum, clever.
