12 Masks of Halloween

A Halloween advent calendar? Nearly! Geek Native has, for years, counted down 12 days to Halloween by sharing a mask daily.

Why masks? Halloween has roots in ancient traditions like Samhain, where people wore masks to disguise themselves from spirits or mimic them. This practice evolved into the modern tradition of wearing costumes and masks for fun and fright.

The 12 Masks of Halloween: #10 Sexy Carnival

October 28, 2014 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

Sexy Halloween costumes are very common these days and there’s always a valid debate around this. Over on Etsy Vadimusl don’t describe these costumes as Halloween or even sexy. The retailer uses the words “Carnival” and “Something”. These are hard manual work but can be finished in about 7 days. Tempted? Pop over to the […]

The 12 Masks of Halloween: #9 Rat King

October 27, 2014 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

This full head mask is the Rat King from Etsy. The seller is Faust and Company who make the design by hand, so you’ll not get this for this Halloween. Feels like a good way to scare the neighbour at Christmas. You know; when nothing, not even the mice are supposed to be stirring. Real […]

The 12 Masks of Halloween: #8 Murder Clown

October 26, 2014 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

This isn’t a mask. I’m not saying this is a real murder clown – it’s just that this is a handmade, prepainted, latex prosthetic. You’ll need to apply it to your face with spirit gum or liquid latex. The nicely named JaneDoeFx is selling this kit on Etsy along with plenty of fake wounds. Need […]

The 12 Masks of Halloween: #7 the Dragon

October 25, 2014 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

Dubrovnik Art don’t say much about this creation. It’s called “Handmade” and has no other description but appears when you search their Etsy store for masks. That’s no surprise as Dubrovnik make a lot of great masks along with wall art. It might be a bit of a gamble buying this without first checking it’ll […]

The 12 Masks of Halloween: #6 Horsing around

October 24, 2014 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

Who says Halloween masks need to be spooky? Sometimes you’ll ge more chat if you’re just odd. Over on Etsy Sans Souci Studios are selling this horse mask for the regal sum of £300/$475. They suggest the horse is tossing its head and neighing. Perhaps it’s a challenge or maybe the horse is having a […]

The 12 Masks of Halloween: #5 Zombie virus

October 23, 2014 by Andrew Girdwood 1 Comment

This Falcon-head mask is of Horus, the Egyptian God of the Sky (and other things). The mask was made by Divamp and you can buy it on Etsy. At £500/$800 the mask isn’t cheap but comes from Spain and you will be entirely unique and amazing at your office Halloween party. It may not be […]

The 12 Masks of Halloween: #3 Bat sunglasses

October 21, 2014 by Andrew Girdwood 1 Comment

Fancy something posh and designer this Halloween? These Anglo American eyewear bat sunglasses from Vintage Eye Wear Lover might tempt you. Guess how much these sunglasses cost? £100, £200 or £300? All wrong. This will set you back some £570. That’s about $900 US. The case is not included. Fancy another mask suggestion? Try a […]

The 12 Masks of Halloween: #2 Intense Groot

October 20, 2014 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

Google’s data shows that Groot will be the 8th most popular costume this Halloween. If you’re going to do it; then do it intensely. Sold by Rubie’s Costume Co from Amazon for $25 this mask lets you act with your eyes. Yup. It’s a pull over the head, one size fits all, polyester face for […]

The 12 Masks of Halloween: #1 Slimer head

October 19, 2014 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

There’s a little ritual Geek Native likes to perform in the run up to Halloween. It’s called The 12 Masks of Halloween and simply showcases a mask a day as we get closer to the night of screams. Sunday the 19th means 12 days takes us up to the 30th and the 31st is the […]
