Superhero Week: Cool superhero and Star Wars vintage dictionary prints

July 5, 2015 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

Etsy retailer Loft817 printworks is going on my bookmark list. They take old dictionaries and print a range of geeky art on them. Since this is Superhero Week this post will focus on mainly on heroes and villains. The Star Wars prints are a bonus! Tempted? I am! Check out Loft817 printworks. This superhero-themed post […]

Superhero Week: The Evolution of Catwoman

July 2, 2015 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

There you have it; a tribute to one of the best anti-heroes/comic book characters of all time. I’m not sure it’s entirely fair to put the young Gotham Catwoman in there but, equally, she’s a perfectly valid Catwoman. Which is your favourite Catwoman era? Via Jeff Victor and an awesome collection of art. Let us […]

Superhero Week: Hijab superhero self portraits

July 2, 2015 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

Nour Saleh is a hijab wearing Canadian. Last year she took up a Tumblr challenge to draw herself as different fictional characters. I love how Nour responded to that challenge. Not only did she imagine herself as various superheroes, she kept the hijab in all of the illustrations. I think the results work well and […]

Superhero Week: Artist reimagines superheroines with practical costumes

July 1, 2015 by Andrew Girdwood 3 Comments

Geek Native once called this “drawing the impossible” back when we looked at Michael Lee Lunsford’s fully dressed superheroines. I like these additional designs from Lord Ingvard. He’s an illustrator who was experimenting with alternatives… but has found out that not everyone on the internet appreciates it. Amazingly, he’s been forced to offer apologies for […]

Superhero Week: Wolverine Snow White

June 29, 2015 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

It’s Superhero Week here on Geek Native as June turns over to July. As Max Fradet’s Borderlands’ Boba Fett was a hit it with readers it’s possible his mashup of the classic Snow White with the equally classic Wolverine might also appeal! Check out more of Max’s work over at Deviant Art. This is a […]

Boba does Borderlands; R2 is Claptrap

June 25, 2015 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

This excellent mashup is the work of French artist Max Fradet. I think he captures all four characters wonderfully. You can tell at a glance you’ll looking at Boba Fett and R2-D2. You also know you’re looking into Borderlands and at Claptrap too. It’s well worth checking out his Deviant Art profile.

8 slices of inspiration from concept artist Ryan Glitter

June 23, 2015 by Andrew Girdwood 1 Comment

Ryan Glitter is a concept artist who’s worked for the likes of Privateer Press, Crytek and Sony Online Entertainment. He’s drawn for historical, sci-fi, fantasy and steampunk and in these samples of his work you might well conjure up images of Halo 4, Planetside, Starhawk and perhaps a little Warmachine action too. You can check […]

Spaceships and warriors from John Liberto

June 21, 2015 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

John Liberto has worked as a concept artist at 343 Industries and is currently at Oculus VR. Think Halo and you’ll be spot on but he’s also contributed to Battlefield, Gears of War and Unreal Tournament games. His impressive CV extends to movies such as Alien vs Predator and Harry Potter and the Prisoner of […]

8 pieces of Guild Wars concept art from Levi Hopkins

June 19, 2015 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

This is simply fantastic art. If you’re a Guild Wars 2 player then some of these may be familiar to you – perhaps as loading screen art. The illustrations below are a sample from a wider collection shared at Concept Art World and if you want to take a proper tour of Levi’s work then […]

Inspired by Mad Max

June 14, 2015 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

I’m a fan of W. Scott Forbes’ work, especially this Sailor Moon Cyberpunk mashup. The art director has worked for the likes of Marvel, Sideshow Collectibles, Vertigo and other A-List geek companies. This piece was posted over at his Tumblr after Vertigo Comics invited him to take part in an Inspired Artists book for Mad […]
