A new contender has entered the virtual tabletop utility space with the launch of RPG Token Maker, a browser-based tool designed to solve the repetitive “one-at-a-time” workflow that plagues many Dungeon Masters during session prep.
The tool, which is free to use and requires no account registration, focuses on speed and privacy. By processing images directly in the user’s browser rather than uploading them to a remote server, RPG Token Maker ensures that character art, often commissioned or personal, remains on the user’s local machine. No AIs are being trained on your images.

Speed through persistence
In traditional token editors, changing an image often resets the border style, colour, and zoom level. This tool allows DMs to drop a batch of images into a queue and maintain a consistent aesthetic across an entire goblin warband or an adventuring party without re-configuring the UI for every file.
In addition, you can upload a bunch of images at once and get tokens for them all. In our tests, we turned many of the Geek Native avatars into tokens. Above, you can see our cute little zombie as a token ready to terrorise players. (And yes, you can Redbubble him.)
The export presets are specifically tuned for major platforms, offering standard sizes for Roll20 (280px) and Foundry VTT (400px), as well as specific dimensions for Tiny through Gargantuan creatures. This reduces the trial-and-error often associated with token scaling in a virtual environment.
The privacy and legal boundary
By keeping the “crop, border, and export” cycle local to the browser, the tool bypasses the data-harvesting concerns often associated with free web utilities. However, the developer places the onus of legality firmly on the user. The site’s Terms and Conditions explicitly state that users must own the rights to any images they process.
While the tool is currently an “independent indie project” in its early stages, its workflow is notably more robust than that of many long-standing competitors. The inclusion of 15+ border styles, ranging from traditional fantasy gold rings to minimalist sci-fi frames, suggests a desire to be a “one-stop shop” for multi-genre gaming.
The tool currently supports PNG, JPG, and WebP formats, with the ability to export in WebP – a crucial feature for Foundry VTT users looking to keep their game performance high and file sizes low.
