Free League Publishing has announced a new partnership with award-winning creator Tania Herrero and Johan Nohr, the co-creator of MÖRK BORG, to bring a new folk horror roleplaying game to life. Titled Fomoria, the project is scheduled to launch on Kickstarter on 7 April 2026.

The game will be published under the Free League Workshop sublabel, the same “partner” imprint that has previously ushered titles like Pirate Borg and Death in Space into the mainstream. Conceived, written, and illustrated by Tania Herrero with graphic design by Johan Nohr, Fomoria presents an inhospitable subterranean world known as the Strata, where the Sun is a myth, and the only light comes from the “False Stars” of the earth’s roof.
The Strata: A Living Labyrinth
Powered by a modified MÖRK BORG engine, the game places players in the role of the Folk — descendants of a lost surface world who must navigate a breathing, shifting labyrinth of tunnels. While it retains the rules-lite DNA of its predecessor, Fomoria appears to offer a significantly more structured mechanical experience. The core rulebook will feature eight distinct Folk races, six clans, and six “Traditions” (optional character classes), suggesting a level of “crunch” and character development that goes beyond the “life is cheap” philosophy of the original MÖRK BORG core rules.
Tania Herrero, the primary visionary behind the project, is no stranger to the art-punk scene. She is best known for the acclaimed Crown of Salt and Menagerie of Unbearable Things, works that were praised for their visual storytelling and bold, atmospheric layouts.
A Sensory Experience

The Kickstarter campaign will feature an offset-printed hardcover rulebook produced to the high production standards associated with Free League’s premium portfolio. In addition to the standard book, the campaign includes:
- A Limited Edition “Darkness” cover.
- A dedicated GM Screen.
- The Wyrd and Ruin zine, featuring community-made adventures.
- Custom artisanal dice.
- An original atmospheric soundtrack composed by Pete Marsh and the Bogmen.
Johan Nohr, who the Kickstarter is attached to, wrote on the story:
In the earth’s dark womb, there is no Sun, and Darkness swallows all light. Gazing at the Roof above, Folk only find the distant glow of False Stars. Fomoria is the work of two people who find delight in building strange places with monsters and lots of bones.”
The timing of the launch aligns closely with the Swedish gaming convention GothCon 2026 (2–5 April), suggesting the team may be looking to build momentum from Europe’s longest-running analogue gaming event before the crowdfunding begins.
A free Quickstart for Fomoria, including base rules, eight pre-generated characters, and the introductory adventure Spawn of the Hungering One, is available for download on the Kickstarter pre-launch page.
