Free League Publishing, based in Stockholm, has today unveiled The Fractured Library & Other Tales from the Lost Horizon, a new collection of five standalone adventures for their science fiction roleplaying game, Coriolis: The Great Dark.

Pre-orders for the hardback volume are now live via the official webshop, providing customers with immediate access to a complimentary digital version to begin their expeditions into the Charted Sphere.
The collection introduces five distinct narratives, ranging from escorting mysterious cryo-pods to investigating silent resonance stations, and debuts the Kumaranti, a new Slipstream cruiser. These scenarios are designed to be run as standalone sessions or integrated into the existing Flowers of Algorab campaign, further cementing the game’s shift toward survival horror and procedural exploration.
The release comes during a period of significant momentum for the Swedish studio, following the million-dollar success of their recent Dragonbane crowdfunding. Lead designers Kosta Kostulas and Nils Karlén appear to be doubling down on the “exploration-as-horror” aesthetic that defines this new era of Coriolis. As the real world becomes increasingly difficult for many to cope with, gamers are finding a strange solace in escaping to the “Great Dark” – a setting where the dangers, while lethal, operate under the tangible mechanics of “The Delve”.
This shift represents a significant departure from the original Coriolis: The Third Horizon, which focused more on sprawling political space opera and “Arabian Nights” cultural themes. The current iteration leans heavily into “pulp archaeology” and deep-sea diving metaphors, a visual and narrative pivot anchored by the stark, haunting illustrations of Martin Grip.
However, the announcement remains notably silent on specific writer attributions for these five adventures. While the core system was built with the collaborative expertise of Shawn Tomkin, whose influence on isolationist solo-play mechanics remains the game’s structural backbone, the lack of named credits for The Fractured Library is unusual for a studio that frequently celebrates its guest contributors.

Crews operating out of Ship City will find these new missions testing the limits of their resources. From the sweltering jungles of Khouri to the desolate ruins on forgotten moons, the focus remains on the “Blight”, the ever-present threat that ensures the Great Dark remains a place of both high-stakes survival and profound isolation.
