Wyldwolf Games, the Minnesota-based studio known for its professional tabletop experiences, has announced the upcoming Kickstarter launch of its flagship setting, Axis Saga: The War of Silence. Scheduled to go live on 14 April 2026, the project introduces a dark fantasy horror world designed for Dungeons & Dragons 5E, compatible with both the 2014 and 2024 rulesets.

The setting is the result of years of “community canon” – stories and mechanics refined through professional Game Master-led sessions at Wyldwolf’s physical gaming space in Blaine. Centred on a 16th-century-inspired world plagued by “The Great Silence” and reality-warping portals, the project aims to move beyond traditional high-fantasy tropes in favour of moral complexity and high-stakes survival.
The Mechanics of Dread
At the heart of the Axis Saga is “The Gift,” a systemic reimagining of vampirism. Unlike standard curse-based mechanics found in official supplements, The Gift is a player-facing system that focuses on agency, temptation, and the social restraint required to survive in a world that fears the supernatural. This is joined by “The Silence Template” and “Resonance,” rules intended to simulate the psychological toll of a world where hope is a dwindling resource.
Chase McAllister, Founder and CEO of Wyldwolf Games, serves as the project’s Creative Director. Drawing on over a decade of experience as a professional Game Master, McAllister emphasises that the setting was built to handle the “hard choices” players made at his own tables.
We wanted Axis Saga: The War of Silence to feel like a world shaped by hard choices, real consequences, and moral gray areas rather than a traditional good-versus-evil fantasy setting. That philosophy came out of years of community-driven play, where player choices and table stories helped shape the setting itself.”
A Pro-GM Ecosystem
The project is managed by Chief Experience Officer Kelsey Egbert, who brings her own decade of professional storytelling experience to coordinating the book’s massive toolkit. The Kickstarter offering is remarkably dense for an independent studio, featuring a 500-plus monster bestiary, 12 new subclasses, and a bespoke character class.
The launch is bolstered by an impressive array of industry partners. Roll20 will provide virtual tabletop support, while Dwarven Forge and Eldritch Foundry are slated to handle the physical and digital representation of the world through custom terrain and miniatures. For atmosphere, the studio has collaborated with Michael Ghelfi Studios to produce dedicated audio for the setting.
The 5e choice also helps GMs. As StartPlaying’s data shows, D&D is still the easiest table to populate.
A World in Motion
Unlike many settings that begin with a blank slate, Axis Saga arrives as a “living world.” The developers have integrated “Raids” and “Campaign Hooks” that allow the community to influence the setting’s future lore based on the collective outcomes of their home games.
The launch timing aligns with a significant period for the Midwestern gaming scene. With the Kickstarter opening on 14 April, the studio is positioned between two major regional conventions – Minicon in early April and DaveCon shortly after. This local focus underscores the project’s origins in the “hyper-local” gaming landmarks of the Twin Cities, where the Wyldwolf community first took root.
