Dream Realm Storytellers, the Ankara-based studio behind the acclaimed Svilland and Bloodpunk settings, has announced Demonheart: The Vile Codex, a sprawling 450-page expansion for Critical Role’s Daggerheart system. Launching on Kickstarter on 21 April 2026, the project is a three-book set that marks a high-stakes transition for the Turkish collective following the founder’s departure and the onset of a global logistics crisis.

The campaign presents a brutal vision of biblical Hell, moving away from the studio’s traditional 5E roots to embrace Daggerheart’s narrative-heavy mechanics. With 63 subclasses inspired by the Seven Deadly Sins and a new Sin Domain mechanic, Demonheart represents the first major third-party adventure and setting guide for the system. However, the project’s ambition is facing scrutiny as the studio navigates a drastically altered leadership structure and a crumbling international trade route.
A Studio in Transition
The shadow of Umut Çomak, who stepped down as the head of DRS in July 2025, looms large over this release. Çomak was the architect of the studio’s “dark and bloody” aesthetic, and Demonheart is the first flagship title developed entirely under new leadership. While the creative team remains committed to “unhinged creative risks,” the pivot from the established 5E market to Darrington Press’s newer ecosystem is a bold move.
The Darrington Press Community Gaming License remains a point of friction within the industry. Unlike the more open licenses of the past, the DPCGL includes specific restrictions on virtual tabletop monetisation and branding. For a studio like DRS, which has historically relied on heavy VTT integration for titles like Silverplate, the “whitelisted” VTT limitations could present a hurdle for digital-first players.
The Logistics Gamble
Perhaps the greatest risk to Demonheart is not the ruleset, but the box it comes in. The 2026 global shipping crisis, exacerbated by lingering problems at the Suez Canal and Strait of Hormuz, has made physical fulfilment from Turkey a logistical nightmare.
DRS has faced these “ghosts” before. During the Silverplate campaign, the studio was forced to implement shipping surcharges due to freight spikes, a move that tested the patience of their backer community. With Demonheart planned as a massive three-book experience, a setting guide, a mechanics volume, and a full adventure, the physical weight and “landed costs” of the project are expected to be significant.
Inside the Vile Codex

Mechanically, Demonheart attempts to push Daggerheart into uncomfortable territory. The “Sin Domain” allows characters to descend into damnation, offering instructions for turning player characters into literal demons.
The DRS creative team said in a statement;
This is not a safe story. It’s an exploration of a raw, bloody world. Demonheart is about finding a path forward in the darkest possible world, and asking what it costs to take that path. Beware and despair.”
The setting itself is an infernal metropolis of execution gardens and endless chains, a far cry from the high-fantasy heroics typically associated with the system’s creator, Critical Role. By leaning into “edgy, unflinching” gore, DRS is testing whether the Daggerheart community is ready for the same grimdark sensibilities that made Svilland a cult hit.
Whether Demonheart can ascend the Kickstarter charts or become a victim of the current economic climate remains to be seen. For a studio at a crossroads, this project is more than just a campaign; it is a proof of concept for the post-Çomak era.
