One of Kickstarter’s most successful tabletop roleplaying projects has landed, just in time for the Halloween season. The Crooked Moon, a 600+ page folk-horror campaign setting for 5E from Avantris Entertainment, is now available in both physical and digital editions.

The campaign, which raised over $4 million from more than 21,000 backers, brings the eerie world previously seen in the Edge of Midnight actual-play series to home tables.
The setting is the haunted woods of Druskenvald, a land steeped in folk-horror traditions where superstition, ritual, and paranoia define the atmosphere. Players are invited to venture into a world watched over by a “sneering moon”. The book provides a complete adventure path that takes characters from level 1 to 13.
This is a substantial release, clocking in at over 600 pages. The contents include 15 new folk-horror-themed subclasses, 13 new lineages, and a host of new spells, rituals, and items. It also introduces new “Fateweaving” rules. For Dungeon Masters, the setting provides a bestiary of 85 folkloric monsters and 11 multi-phase boss fights. Avantris confirms the content is written for the 2024 Fifth Edition core rules but remains fully compatible with the 2014 edition of Dungeons & Dragons.
The project comes from Avantris Entertainment, the creative team behind the Legends of Avantris actual-play series. The Crooked Moon adapts their cinematic Edge of Midnight series into a tabletop module. Its significant funding success places it among the largest third-party 5E projects to date, demonstrating a strong audience appetite for both actual-play adaptations and the folk-horror genre.

The Crooked Moon is available digitally via the D&D Beyond Marketplace. Physical editions are also shipping, including a Standard Edition available directly from Avantris. For those seeking a more comprehensive collection, a D&D 5E: The Crooked Moon Core Box Set is available for pre-order on Amazon, which is currently listed at $199.99.
