Canadian indie rock band Good Kid has released a striking anime music video for their new single, Wall. The video, which premiered this month, features a voice cameo from popular streamer and voice actor LilyPichu and includes a subtle but clear nod to tabletop roleplaying games.
The animated video, directed by the artist known as xray.alpha.charlie, depicts a poignant story of memory and loss, with LilyPichu voicing the character of Mimi. For the Geek Native audience, a particular lyric in the song will stand out: “I thought you would show / like a beautiful ghost caught in a saving throw”. This direct reference to the classic TTRPG mechanic solidifies the band’s geek credentials.
Good Kid is no stranger to the geek culture scene. The band previously created music for the popular dating sim video game Monster Prom 2: Monster Camp, cementing a connection with a gaming audience that continues with this latest release. The character designs for the Wall video were created by Gabriel Altrows.
The project was funded in part by FACTOR and the Government of Canada. Fans can listen to the new single, Wall, on various streaming platforms, and the band also offers music and merchandise through their official website and Bandcamp page.
