Ashes And Diamonds, the new project featuring Daniel Ash of Bauhaus and Love and Rockets fame, has unveiled the animated music video for their track Teenage Robots. The single is taken from their upcoming album, Are Forever, set for release on 31st October 2025.
The animated video for Teenage Robots is a collaborative effort between Adrian Burke and Daniel Ash himself, created at Awen Studios Ojai. It features a stark, almost abstract visual style that complements the track’s driving, electronic-infused sound. The animation employs a limited colour palette and repetitive, angular movements, echoing the titular “teenage robots” and the lyrical themes of deception and societal critique, with lines such as “every time she fakes it, every time she lies” and “what’s the point together when you want to die”.
Musically, Teenage Robots presents a blend of post-punk sensibilities, electronic textures, and a “sleazy pulse” that has drawn comparisons to early Depeche Mode and Sisters of Mercy. This distinctive sound is a hallmark of Ashes And Diamonds, which sees Daniel Ash (lead vocals, guitars, E-Bow, saxophone) joined by Bruce Smith (drums, programming, backing vocals), known for his work with Public Image Ltd and The Pop Group, and Paul Spencer Denman (bass, backing vocals), best recognised as the bassist for Sade and Sweetback.
Ash brings his signature post-punk, glam, and experimental style, developed across his extensive career with influential bands like Bauhaus, Tones on Tail, and Love and Rockets. Smith contributes textured percussion and atmospheric electronics, while Denman provides a smooth, rhythmic low-end that underpins the band’s cinematic feel. The album Are Forever, recorded over six years, is described as sonically compelling and powerfully melodic, with mixing and engineering handled by Robert Adam Stevenson (Queens of the Stone Age, Jane’s Addiction). The album explores diverse influences, from trip-hop to gothic rock, and promises a unique sonic journey from these seasoned musicians.
