The latest trailer for Starfleet Academy was just unveiled during the Star Trek Universe panel at New York Comic Con, and it seems like we’ve got plenty to get excited about!
January 2026 will welcome a whole new set of recruits we can look forward to becoming acquainted with, and from the trailer it looks like there’s going to be a good dose of intrigue, adventure, complex relationships and emotional situations – rather than just the ‘newbies at college’ tone we got from the first trailer.
The new series focuses on the first group of cadets admitted to the legendary Academy – now based on the U.S.S. Athena – in over a century, after the devastating events of ‘The Burn’ from Star Trek: Discovery Season 3. There’s still a lot of rebuilding to do, which takes us into new territory.
To me, at least, this brief glimpse of the show feels fresh and new, but also familiar enough to give me a touch of warm feels – and like there’s something really good on the way!
Also really happy to see Robert Picardo reprising his role as ‘The Doctor’, alongside Discovery stars Tig Notaro and Mary Wiseman, who play Jett Reno and Sylvia Tilly.

The cast also includes Sandro Rosta, Paul Giamatti, Gina Yashere, Karim Diané, Kerrice Brooks, George Hawkins, Bella Shepard, Zoë Steiner, and Oded Fehr.
There will be 10 episodes of Starfleet Academy in this first season, with the first two episodes premiering on 15th January on Paramount+.
